Questions by group
Working with us
Who do you work with?
Owner-operators with their own authority, owner-operators leased on to another company, new authorities and trucking companies.
Where do you work?
We work with trucking operations across the lower 48 states. Our office is in Fort Myers, FL.
What are your hours?
Mon–Fri 8 AM–6 PM ET. Saturday by appointment (call or email to set one up). Closed Sunday.
How soon will I hear back?
We’ll get back to you within one business day, often the same day.
Do you speak Spanish?
Yes. Our team speaks English and Spanish. Se habla español. Pick “Español” on any form, or just call.
Are you licensed?
Yes. Pharos Insurance Group LLC is a licensed insurance agency.
Can I buy or change a policy on this website?
No. The website is for requests and questions. Requests made through this site don’t bind or change coverage. Coverage is in effect only once a policy is issued or bound, under its terms.
Quotes and price
What affects my price?
Drivers, equipment, what you haul, how far you run, where you’re garaged, loss history and the limits you pick. See the full list on What affects your price.
Is a quote the same as coverage?
No. A quote is a price for coverage you haven’t bought yet. Coverage is in effect only once a policy is issued or bound, under its terms.
When should I start shopping my renewal?
Earlier is better. Starting several weeks before your renewal date gives time to gather loss runs and compare options.
What are loss runs, and how do I get them?
Loss runs are your claims history from your current or past policies. We’ll help you request them: pick “Policy documents or loss runs” on our service form.
Policy changes
How do I add or remove a truck or a driver?
Send a service request or call us before the change happens. A request doesn’t change coverage by itself; the change applies once it’s made on your policy, under its terms.
I have a question about my bill. Who do I contact?
Follow the instructions on your invoice, or call us and we’ll help you sort it out.
How do I send you documents?
Email them to sales@pharosins.com or text them to (305) 776-9420, whichever is easiest. That works for loss runs, dec pages, VIN lists, authority letters and driver’s license or CDL details, or give us those details by phone. Please don’t put Social Security numbers or bank details in our web forms, and never send Social Security numbers or bank or card details by email or text. We never ask for bank details by email or text. Payments are made only through the secure payment page shown on your policy or finance company bill.
Can I cancel or change coverage by text or voicemail?
No. A web form, text or voicemail doesn’t bind, change or cancel coverage. Call us so we can walk you through it.
Certificates and claims
How do I get a certificate of insurance?
Use the certificate request form. It asks for everything we need in one place.
I had an accident. What do I do first?
Get safe and call 911 if anyone’s hurt. Then follow the steps on our claims help page, including how to report the claim after hours.
Trucking insurance glossary
- Additional insured
- a person or business added to your policy by endorsement, usually because a contract requires it, so the policy protects them too within that endorsement’s terms. A blanket endorsement adds those who meet its conditions; a scheduled one names each. A certificate alone doesn’t add anyone.
- BMC-91 / BMC-91X
- the federal filing that shows FMCSA you carry the required liability coverage.
- Bobtail
- usually covers driving your truck without a trailer; whether it includes any business use depends on the policy. See bobtail and non-trucking.
- BOC-3
- the filing that names your process agents in each state. It isn’t insurance. See the new authority steps.
- Certificate holder
- the person or business that receives your certificate of insurance, such as a broker, shipper or lender.
- Certificate of insurance (COI)
- a document that shows the coverage in place on a certain date. It doesn’t change or add coverage.
- Deductible
- the part of a covered loss you pay before the policy pays.
- Endorsement
- a written change to a policy that adds, removes or changes coverage.
- Garaging address
- where your trucks are parked when they’re not running.
- Loss runs
- a report of your claims history on a policy.
- MCS-90
- an endorsement covering certain final judgments for public liability, up to the limit stated on it and subject to its terms. It isn’t extra coverage for your own truck or cargo, and you may have to repay payments made only because of it. See filings and the MCS-90.
- Non-trucking liability
- usually covers a leased-on truck used for personal, non-business reasons, off dispatch; the policy decides the details.
- Operating authority
- FMCSA registration that lets you haul regulated freight for hire across state lines. Your MC number (docket number) tracks it; having the number doesn’t mean your authority is active.
- Trailer interchange
- coverage for damage to a non-owned trailer in your care under a written interchange agreement.
